It’s a small airport, just one terminal for both domestics and international flights…
That’s why from April to late September, even up to half of October sometimes, the airport is awfully crowded…
Despite that, remember that for the domestics and within Europe flights the check in’s open 1hr and 45/50 min. before the scheduled departure time.
For the overseas flights 2 and a half hrs before; so, it’s useless reach the airport too early, you will waste your time waiting the opening of the desks.
Consider also that the trip from the cruise port or piazzale Roma last not more than 20 minutes and from some hotel in Venice center, water taxi ride included, about 35/40 minutes.
A bit different if you will catch a waterbus (vaporetto), as from the center to piazzale Roma the line n° 1 takes about 25/30 minutes,
The line n° 2 about 15/20 minutes.
From the center city you can also catch an Alilaguna waterbus that takes you from the center city to the airport directly in about 1 hour.
